Pittacum, Bierzo Tinto 2019
Whilst Pittacum is a fairly new winery, they are backed by Spanish heavyweight Terras Gauda, who were looking for vineyards where they could produce red wine with a distinctive personality. They certainly found this in the hilly region of Bierzo in northern Spain, where their Pittacum Tinto 2019 opens with an expressive nose of forest fruits, tobacco, and clove. It has an intriguing palate of plummy-blackberry, spiced cinnamon and leather, with a very full texture and long finish, making it a superb food wine.
